Business owners in Hammond, LA, dealing with interruptions from unforeseen events such as natural disasters, or other major disruptions can find navigating their business interruption claims complex and stressful. Utilizing a private insurance adjuster can be a strategic choice to ensure a thorough claim process and fair compensation. Here are some essential tips for business owners using a private insurance adjuster:

  1. Hire an Adjuster Promptly: Engage a private insurance adjuster as soon as you anticipate a claim. Early involvement allows the adjuster to begin assessing damages and losses immediately, ensuring no details are overlooked as you focus on maintaining business operations.

  2. Check Credentials and Experience: Verify that the private adjuster you hire is licensed in Louisiana and has specific experience with business interruption claims. An adjuster well-versed in handling complex business claims can be pivotal in navigating the intricacies of your policy and the claims process.

  3. Maintain Comprehensive Records: Keep detailed and organized records of all financial documents and operational reports. This includes profit and loss statements, tax returns, payroll records, and any other documentation that reflects your business's financial health before and after the interruption. Clear records will strengthen your claim and assist the adjuster in quantifying the losses accurately.

  4. Understand Your Coverage: Review your insurance policy with your adjuster to understand the specifics of your coverage, including any exclusions or limitations. Business interruption insurance typically covers operating expenses, a move to a temporary location if necessary, payroll, taxes, and loan payments.

  5. Regular Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with your adjuster. They should provide you with regular updates on the status of your claim and any issues that arise. This continuous dialogue is crucial to staying informed and prepared for next steps.

  6. Fees and Agreements: Private adjusters usually work on a fee basis, which is often a percentage of the claim payout. Discuss and agree on the fee structure upfront and ensure it is documented in a written contract to avoid any surprises.

  7. Negotiate Wisely: Rely on your adjuster's expertise during negotiations with the insurance company. Experienced adjusters have the skills to negotiate effectively, ensuring that your settlement reflects the true extent of your covered losses.

  8. Review Offers Thoroughly: Before accepting any settlement offer, thoroughly review it with your adjuster to ensure it adequately compensates for your business interruption losses. They can provide insight into whether further negotiations might yield a better outcome.

By following these tips and working closely with a skilled private insurance adjuster, business owners in Hammond, LA, can navigate the complexities of business interruption claims more effectively, ensuring they receive fair compensation to help their business recover and thrive.

Recently we worked on a Multi-tenant claim. We put the claim in writing and got allied proof. We forced the carrier to pay for building repairs, smoke damage, and a full re-roof of the building. The carrier had offered $28,000 on this claim. We settled the claim for $112,000.
