If you think 10 pictures did the trick to show the damage, multiply this by 10 and take 100. You will never have "too many" pictures of the damage. We could tell you endless stories about not having enough pictures to prove the cause of the loss or the amount of the damage!

Next, you should, with camera in hand, Inventory the damage to the build and the contents. As a rule, your insurance company will not pay for anything over $100.00 if you do not have a picture.

Many people will produce a list of like items saying "5 pairs of men's dress shoes," or "5 sweaters." The story is much more detailed. Those shoes or sweaters were bought at different times and had a different values. If you let them be bundled together, you are giving away thousands in your coverage.

In one example, a property owner had turned in $25,000 in Insurance Content Coverage Items. Marc Lancaric, public adjuster, was at a New Hampshire apartment building where a fire had occurred recently. The owner explained that the insurance carrier had said, “We won't be covering smoke damage beyond the neighboring apartment, this just wasn't much more than a kitchen fire.”

We had a funny call today from a client. The owner said; “You can't be making money on our claim, with all this hassle — are you going to leave us?”

A little background on this claim: We had checks flying in for the owners, but we were facing some challenges in getting the client paid for all of their contents.

First understand, Global Patriot Adjusters, handles tens of millions in contents every year. For this particular owner, we even got 3rd party evaluation on many of the items to get the numbers up.

As it happened,  we got a report in from the insurance carrier today that they were paying $25,000 of a $39,000 claim for contents.  We called in some experts for some help, and by five o'clock, we had that number to $36,500. We are always proud when we get closer than others.

It could be said that we are a strange lot! We would certainly agree. Our strangeness is more of a code of honor, as we border on zealots when it comes the settling claims.
